YOU’RE NEVER TOO OLD OR OUT OF SHAPE TO START TRAINING

As your Fitness Coach and Personal Trainer I’m here to help you achieve your fitness goals. I passionately believe that by keeping fit and lifting weights - yes weights - we can remain active and healthy later in life.

Hi I’m Amy,
nice to meet you

Meet the person behind Fitness Aims

Ten years ago I trained up as a fitness instructor on a whim. I was fed up with the corporate world and tired of the grind, I never felt fulfilled and had lost my ambition and drive. To this day I don’t know why I chose to enrol in a fitness course, I had never lifted weights or had a gym membership.

However, I had taken up running two years previously and started racing. I was an average runner but I quickly became absorbed in it. I loved researching the science of movement and nutrition, constantly trying to get the edge on my own training.

The clincher came when I persuaded some of my ‘not athletic at all’ colleagues to sign up for a corporate 5k race. I trained them in the weeks leading up to race day. I loved it, the satisfaction in seeing them go from stumbling in an almost jog to a full 5km run was immense, but the biggest buzz came from seeing their own delight in their achievement.

As someone who came to weightlifting only relatively recently, I understand the nervousness that can accompany that but, I also still experience the joy and pride. There is a very powerful feeling that comes with knowing you are physically strong and capable and it spills into other facets of your life.

Mental resilience is built in the gym: going that small bit heavier than last time, pushing yourself through one more rep or for a few more seconds, digging a little bit deeper. All these train your brain to push through challenges and show you that you are always capable of learning new things and achieving new goals.

To this day it never fails to excite me when a client reaches a goal or achieves something that had seemed near impossible at the start.
